<span style="font-family: inherit;">Actress Madhoo Bala who is best remembered for her role of a rural girl in Mani Ratnam's Roja and Shankar's debut film Gentleman is making a comeback in Tamil films after 18 years with Balaji Mohan's Vaayai Moodi Pesavum. The last film she acted in a full-fledged role in Tamil before this was Prabhu starrer Panchalangkuruchi directed by Seeman.<br /><br />The actress who has however been continuing her acting career with Hindi and Telugu films attended the audio launch and press meet of VMP that has Dulquer Salman and Nazriya Nazeem playing the lead roles. While addressing the media persons the actress said even after the lapse of two decades, people use to refer her as 'Roja' girl and thanked Mani Ratnam for that.<br /><br />She recalled how na�ve she was during the shoot of Roja to complain to Mani for having the shoots as early as 5 AM. With sequels becoming familiar to Indian cinema Madhoo expressed her willingness to act in part 2 of Roja<br /><br />She also thanked Balaji Mohan for giving her a powerful character in Vaayai Moodi Pesavum.</span></div>

Another achievement of Goli Soda

"I'm doing a role that even I couldn't have thought of ever performing. I do play a toy boy but my character Rohan has got a lot of shades to him. Most of them are not so nice. In a pursuit to win her love, I am willing to do anything for her and Rani being the bindaas lady that she is... well royally uses me!" said Vir.</div>

Kamal choice for heroine of Drishyam remake

<span style="font-family: inherit;">It is well known that Universal actor Kamalhassan will be acting the male lead role in the Tamil remake of the Malayalam Super hit film Drishyam. However the heroine of the Tamil version is yet to be finalized.</span><br />

'Vaai Moodi Pesavum' Audio release date

Balaji Mohan who entered kollywood with Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Eppadi which was initially a short film extended to a feature film and churned supe rhits out of both the versions  is ready with his next. This time he has taken up a bilingual in Tamil and Malayalam and the Tamil film is titled as Vaai Moodi Pesavum. The film stars Dulqer Salman and Nazriya Nazim in the lead roles. VALLINAM – Basketball? Cricket? Both? Or None?

The story, backdrop and setting (Screen play): A fatal accident kills his friend in a basketball court forcing Nakul a college basketball star () to emotionally distance himself from the game he loved most dearly. He leaves Trichy and moves over to Chennai and enrolls himself in another college to continue to pursue his education. He is befriended by another student and a basketball player (Siva). He falls in love with a rich businessman’s (J.P.) daughter (Meera) who is engaged to the student union chairman and cricket star (Vamsi). Nakul and Vamsi clash over the girl they love. Nakul also disapproves of the undue importance being given to cricket over basketball.  Finally to end this conflict Nakul and Vamsi decide to settle this unending conflict once and for all on the wager set by Vamsi being that if Nakul and his basketball friends should win the ensuing basketball tournament he (Vamsi) would stop playing cricket.<br />

& finally the climax after a series of hurdles set by the director in the form of threats, arm twisting, bribing, political pressure, Adiyals, match fixing etc the climax culminates into the final basketball game devoid of spectators and possibly viewers too!<br />

Acting: - Nakul’s sincere effort to perform (Krishna) somehow fails to inspire this films rather un-inspirational narration and screen play. The director’s repeated efforts to disguise this actor’s slanted eyes by calling him Jet Li etc actually does more damage than help! Nakul sports a soulful and sad face throughout the film. He also sadly lacks the height and physique to qualify for a basketball player!<br />
<br />
Mrudhula as Meera, looks like a school girl studying in the 9th grade cast in an adult film. Her acting talent has to be necessarily tested in her next!<br />
<br />
Vamsi as the rich spoilt kid doubles as a cricket star cum villain and is just adequate and has really no great role to play in this film<br />
<br />
Jagan as the comedy quotient is the only actor who has managed to create a few laughs once in a while with his one liner’s and quips. If not for him the film would have been even less inspiring.<br />
<br />
JaiPrakash as the Meera’s dad has performed his role to its requirement and with ease.<br />
<br />
Adhi & Atul Kulkarni, the basketball has played a bigger role in the film!<br />
& the rest were a necessity as a basketball team needs 5 players and a cricket team, 11!<br />
<br />
Camera:- The cameraman’s efforts contained and reduced the lag in the story and screen play to a great extent. It definitely made a few scenes watchable.<br />

Edit: - The editor’s contribution further reduced slack and boredom.<br />

Choreo: - Standard fare.<br />

Stunts: - Archaic.<br />

Music: - Standard fare and the songs and premise don’t match!<br />

The one’s that went into the ‘BASKET’: - 1) The premise to highlight the value of other games other than cricket (though not a new thought)  2) The comedy lines were so far apart that they failed to add any real energy to the film.<br />
<br />
The one’s that spilled out of the ‘BASKET’ :- 1) the characterization of the 5 protagonists’ very weak. Their background and struggles in real life and channelizing their energy through the stannous game of basketball would have helped the film and reduced the monotony and lag to a great extent. The marginalization of the 5 by society would have further helped the viewer to empathize with them 2) Unwanted and protracted comparison with cricket and the resulting fights between college mates a drag 3) Atul Kulkarni totally wasted. Aadhi could have been brought back 4) The rules and nuances could have been explained by the radio jockey Shiva or by judicious use of blurbs 5) The coach was a mere security guard and a P.T.master. 6) The bomb scare totally unnecessary, instead the family and friends of the 5 could have been used to create drama and emotion with telling effect 7) The songs failed to add inspiration to the sports drama instead served as a time pass. 8) The director failure to extract inspired performances from the actors 9) Lack of inspirational scenes to create some interest in the game of basketball. 10) The heroine looks like a school girl cast in an adult film 11) The hero has a perpetual look of sadness and his occasional smile made me sad 12) And finally the necessity of bringing in an afro American team to inspire heroism among the locals pulled the air completely out of the ball!<br />

Finally to sum it all up, a quote: “The length of a film should be directly related to the endurance of the human bladder.”<br />

On my left my businessman friend:- “ Idhu enna padam sir?” I smiled at him and he continued “Oh! Basketball, cricket pathi etho padam, illai”, I nodded and continued smiling, he turned away in disgust!<br />

Bottom Line: - “Probably inspire you to play cricket with a basketball!”<br />

But as is the case with many other Kamal films, The tease of Uthama Villain has lead to a controversy even as the shoot has just begun yesterday. Online space is abuzz accusing the veteran actor that he has copied the photograph taken by a French photographer Eric Lafforgue to depict a traditional art form in Kerala.<br />

It is unknown whether the similarity is co-incidental or the actor has acquired  the permission before using the photo.  The actor who is one of the outspoken celebrities in tinsel town is expected to come out with an explanation soon.<br />

Uthama Villain is being produced by Tirupathi Brothers of N.Lingusamy and the actor home production house Rajkamal Film International. The film's script has been written by Kamalhassan while Ramesh Aravind wears the Director's hat.<br />

Reason for Captain's Singapore visit

While every political party and their sympathisers in Tamilnadu were waiting with bated breath for an announcement from actor turned politician Vijaykanth about his party's alliance for upcoming Lok Sabha elections, our Captain visited Singapore. Media was abuzz that the Ramana actor is victimized by a kidney related disease and he has gone to Singapore for treatment. Vijay Sethupathi starts in Kodaikkanal

While there was much fanfare over the commencement of the Kamalhassan starrer Uthama Villain produced by Tirupathi Brothers, much was not spoken about another venture that the production house has started producing simultaneously, In fact both of these films started there shoot yesterday.<br />

Kamal's Michel Angelo connection

One of the fist look posters of Actor Kamlahassan's upcoming film Uthama Villain shows the Padma bhushan actor from the top, lending his index finger to uplift a child to his level while he rests his other hand on a camera used for film-making. The poster seems to be inspired by a famous painting of Michel Angelo titled as 'The creation of Adam'. Kamal is the scriptwriter of Uthama Villain and the man known for respecting every art form should be the mastermind behind this unique poster.<br />

Michel Angelo is a renowned painter who lived during 15th century. In his Creation of Adam, the painter had depicted the God giving life to Adam, the first human being produced by God, as per Biblical mythology.<br />

Rahman quits Hollywood film for 'Kaaviya Thalaivan'

Vasantha Balan, the filmmaker who gave us some most memorable films like Veyyil, Angadi Theru and Aravaan is back with Kaviyathalaivan. Like his previous film Arvaan, this is also a period film set in 1930s. As stated by the director in recent interviews the film revolves around various Tamil Theatre groups that were ruling the roost during the pre independence era.<br />

There were some reports suggesting that the film is based on the real life love between S.G.Kittappa and K.B.Sundarambal, two prominent theatre cum film personalities of that era.   The director has refused this. H has stated that he is not interested in making Bio-pics and the story of Kaviyathalaivan is an attempt to throw light on the lives of various theatre artistes of the pre independence era. The Veyil director added that he read the autobiography of Avvai Shanmugam, who is considered as one of the pioneers of Tamil Theatre and that inspired him to make a film on Theatre groups.<br />

While the addressing the press, the double Oscar winner said that Vasanthabalan has worked very hard for this film and he has also given the same amount of hard work for composing the songs. The ace composer also stated that he had to quit a Hollywood project which he had started before accepting Kaviyathalavian. The film's soundtrack includes 20 songs out which 8 will be full songs and the remaining will be short songs used at drama sequences and other appropriate moments in the film. The composer admitted that he accepted the offer mainly because the script demanded more of Carnatic and folk music.</div>

Actor Dhanush to remake a Kannada film

Recently actor Dhanush watched the trailer of Kannada film Ugram and was reportedly awestruck by the way the Gangster film has been made. It is said that Dhanush has immediately decided to remake the film in Tamil and Hindi and star in the lead role in both the versions.<br />
